How To Go Plastic Free This July

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities. Will you be part of Plastic Free July by choosing to refuse single-use plastics? Help us, help you! We’re in this together.

Firstly, why should you go plastic-free this July?

Consider this, just for a moment….

BY 2050 IT’S ESTIMATED THERE WILL BE MORE PLASTIC THAN FISH IN THE WORLD’S OCEANS. MOST OF THIS RUBBISH COMES FROM LAND AND WAS ONCE IN OUR HANDS. REFUSE SINGLE-USE PLASTIC AND TOGETHER LET’S KEEP OUR OCEANS CLEAN. JOIN OVER 40,000 PEOPLE, SCHOOLS AND ORGANISATIONS FROM 90 COUNTRIES AND LET THOSE SAME HANDS BE PART OF THE SOLUTION.

The future is in our hands Nurcha family. It’s up to us to take action, now! Will you take the plunge for a better future?!

Here’s a bunch of tips, tricks and products to help you get started…

Be prepared!

Take some time to think about your life right now. Maybe jot down all of the plastic/waste you currently use. What can you change? What’s an easy swap you can make? Remember, nothing changes unless YOU DO.

Sure, it might seem like a bit of an effort or investment at first, but in the long run you might find that you save money, save time and most importantly, save our environment!

Invest in reusable!

Here are a few simple sustainable swaps you can make today to ditch single-use plastic:

Treat yourself to a stylish reusable coffee cup you love

Disposable coffee cups can no longer be recycled, so these will all be going directly to landfill. It is estimated Australians use 1 billion disposable coffee cups each year. That’s approximately 2,700,000 paper coffee cups thrown out every day!

Invest in a reusable coffee cup that you will actually be excited to sip your Oat Milk Flat Whites from! That way you’re way more likely to 1) remember it and 2) enjoy drinking from it!

(P.s. At Nurcha we do use recycled takeaway options & we’re constantly trying to lessen our impact and better our actions every day)

Bring your own reusable bag

Pick yourself up a reusable bag that you can chuck in the car and have on hand always! That way you’re never caught out! We absolutely love the Luvin’ Life String Bags! They fold up so small and are perfect for market/grocery shopping or even hitting the beach!

Invest in a good water bottle

Did you know that every year in Australia, an estimated 370 million plastic water bottles end up in landfill? This is an easy swap that will make a big difference! Invest in a good quality reusable bottle that you can fill with filtered water which is much kinder to the environment and your wallet, and hey, you might even find you start to drink more water!

Start using reusable produce bags/wraps

Avoid fruit and vegetables wrapped in plastic and take your own reusable produce bags. A single plastic produce bag can take more than 1000 years to degrade. Check out some of our reusable produce bags here. Also, a good set of glass or stainless steel containers will pretty much eliminate any need for plastic food wrap. We also stock reusable vegan beeswax wraps are another great alternative to plastic.

Say no to plastic straws.. period!

This one is a no brainer. SAY NO TO PLASTIC STRAWS. There’s no need for them, but if you enjoy drinking your smoothie or iced latte from a straw that’s cool! We’ve got you covered with a variety of reusable and even compostable straw options! Check them out here!

Shop sustainable & local!

Big supermarket chains are often ridden with unnecessary plastic (we’ve all seen the bananas covered in plastic and wanted to scream out loud, right?). Why not head to your local farmers market to grab your produce? You will likely find they use little to no plastic on their fruit and veg! Opt for the produce without plastic and take your own produce bags. It’s also a fun weekend activity that you, your kiddies and friends can do together.

We hope this has given you some inspiration and guidance into going plastic-free this July! Even if you cut down on your plastic usage by 5% that’s 5% less plastic in the environment.

Plastic-free July kicks off July 1st! We’re here to help, come down to Nurcha to discuss our wide range of products that will help you live a single-use plastic-free life!
