What Difference You Can Make…

Sustainability. Do you ever sit and wonder how much of impact you really have? Can we really reduce our carbon footprint? Do you ever feel that your contribution wouldn’t make a difference?

Think Again!

Check out the difference you can make just by having ONE meat-free meal, ONCE a week, for ONE YEAR.

Help us to help the planet. Why not try a plant-based lifestyle for one year too. You only need to start right now. Together, we truly can make a difference.

remember: We don’t need a handful of people doing sustainable living perfectly, we need millions of people doing it imperfectly.
Of Marine Reserve Created

By not eating fish or seafood, global demand is reduced, and marine and freshwater species are saved.

You effectively create an 11.7m2 marine reserve every meat free day you have!

Bathtubs Of Water Saved

Animal agriculture uses up a lot of water.

The average meat eater requires 16 Olympic swimming pools of water to produce the meat they will eat in their life.

Of Marine Reserve Created

We are destroying the world’s lungs and global oxygen levels are dropping.

Every meat free day you have slightly reduces global demand for habitat destruction, thereby saving land.

Of Greenhous Gasses Avoided

Animal agriculture results in vast amounts of greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere. By having one meat free day pre week for a year, you save roughly the equivalent amount of greenhouse gases as driving from Sydney to Melbourne.

our impact

JACZS and Nurcha – A collaboration for change.

JACZS Produce are a family owned sustainable farm who are using Nurcha’s plant waste to make compost. The hot composting technique returns carbon to the soil to support biodiversity, sustainability and plant health.

Food waste in landfill produces carbon dioxide but also methane, which is 23 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

In the last month, we have worked together to save 3,990 kg of CO2 emissions (wow!) and methane, nearly a years worth of electricity for a household has been saved so far.

sustainability is our heart and soul

Reducing our footprint.

Sustainability is a key priority to us here at Cafe Nurcha. Everyday we seek to develop and perfect practices aimed at reducing our footprint.

We look for alternative packaging for our products, source eco-friendly and reusable products and packaging in our store. We strive to reduce the energy that our business uses each day. Nurcha is very mindful of our effect on the planet.

Our team knows that even small changes such as switching from plastic to paper straws for our drinks, can have a big impact on the environment.

We ensure that all of our reusable shopping bags are made from 100% recycled materials too.

Do our boxes turn up looking a bit battered and worn?

We hope so! We try to recycle and reuse boxes and packaging materials whenever possible.  Nurcha embraces that fact that our deliveries may arrive looking a bit “ugly”! It means that we practice what we preach.

If you plan on forwarding our product on, we hope that you send it forward in a box that looks battered too!  Every bit helps and every bit is another step towards reducing our footprint.

Sustainability and Sunshine Coast Community Beach Clean Ups

The Cafe Nurcha team understands how integral our community is to ensuring the survival of the planet. Our team benefits from a broader perspective because we are community driven. It allows us to appreciate that the earth is owned by us all, and that only as a whole can we truly elicit change.

Because of this, we regularly take part in community beach clean up days. At these events, we come together to collect discarded rubbish and plastics that pollute our local beaches. By taking direct action to reduce the amount of waste and unsafe materials that enter our oceans, we beautify our environment and protect our wildlife.

We are vegan for…

We believe that a plant-based lifestyle can only benefit our planet. With a philosophy of integrity, health and hope as our motivation, we strive to change the world; one meal at a time. Being vegan means many things to Nurcha and it embodies all facets of life.
