Five Simple Steps For A More Sustainable Future

Five Simple Steps For A More Sustainable Future

“Responsible consumption, a key to protecting the environment”

Happy World Environment Day Nurcha Tribe ???? At Nurcha, we believe every day should be World Environment Day!

It’s our responsibility to take a stand and take action for a more sustainable future, today and every day after. Our planet constantly provides for us without us asking or doing anything in return.

According to The World Counts, Every year we extract almost 90 billion tons of biomass, fossil energy, metal and minerals from the earth – more than 11 tons for every single person on the planet!

NASA has also predicted that the world’s rainforests will be gone by 2100 if we keep cutting it down at the same pace and at the rate the world will most definitely run out of sea life in 2048.

The statistics are all there.. and we could carry on. But, let’s talk about how we can protect and begin to take a stand for Mother Earth!

Our consumption plays a HUGE role in the impact we have on the environment. Here are FIVE steps for a more sustainable future!

1) Go vegan OR reduce Animal Product Intake

In a 2018 report, Greenpeace warned that 14.5% of all greenhouse gas emissions come from industrial stock farming. The meat industry, for example, negatively affects land use as between 75 and 80% of the world’s agricultural land is used for stock breeding. But if this same land were used for growing vegetables, there could be food for 4 billion people more.

With this in mind, what we put onto our plates and into our bodies has never been more important!

Studies suggest that eating a vegan diet could be the best way to reduce your environmental impact on the earth.

Researchers at the University of Oxford found that cutting meat and dairy products from your diet could reduce an individual’s carbon footprint from food by up to 73 per cent!

Not only is eating less meat and dairy great for the environment but it’s also fantastic for your body too.

Switching to a plant-based diet has shown to have a range of potential benefits including; promoting weight loss, reducing the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol levels, lowering the chances of getting certain types of cancer, such as colon cancer, and managing diabetes.

2. Reduce Consumption

Reduce, reuse and recycle is a phrase we use a lot here at Nurcha. This is because reducing consumption can have a huge impact on the environment. Another “R” and one of of the most important (and most underrepresented “R”) is: refuse.

Refuse, means to say “no” to consumption that isn’t 100% necessary. This isn’t always easy. This can be anything from freebies at events, cheap goods on clearance, thot new children’s toys or the latest gadgets. Next time you’re about to make a purchase ask yourself, what purpose does this item have in my life or how will it improve or benefit me?

We’re big believers in products and purchasing with a purpose. Buy products that will not only enhance your body and mind but the world.

3) Simple Sustainable Swaps

Swapping single-use items for sustainable reusable items is an easy way to reduce your impact every single day.

Every day we people drinking beverages from disposable cups or disposable bottles, sipping from disposable straws, carrying disposable grocery bags, eating from disposable plates or containers, using disposable utensils, the list could go on!

The good news is that there are amazing businesses taking a stand and creating reusable products for pretty much every single-use item. We stock a huge range of brands and products that you can purchase through our online store today!

Another awesome thing about purchasing reusable items is that you normally make the money back within the first few times of using the item. For example, most places offer a 50c discount on coffees for when a reusable cup is used. It’s like an investment, not only financially but also for the environment.

4) Recycle Properly

Refuse, reduce, reuse and finally recycle! Recycle should really be at the last of the actions taken. Education on recycling properly is vital. Unsure on how to recycle properly? Click here to read all you need to know.

Knowledge is power. Educate and then educate a friend!

5) Support & Shop Local

We vote with our dollar. Why not check out the local farmers market for fresh produce, buy from local artists, clothing makers and retailers.

This will not only help the environment but assist in making smaller, often family businesses dream come true!

These are just a few powerful actions we can start to implement today to create an impact.

We hope you enjoyed learning and hopefully became inspired to create a change today.

Have any more tips on reducing our impact on the environment? We would love to hear them!
